75 - Hour Broker Qualifying Course

The 75-Hour Broker Qualifying Course course is now being offered through the Long Island Board of REALTORS®.

NYS Requirement for Licensing as a Real Estate Broker

  • Be 20 years old
  • Have a current NYS photo driver’s license or non-driver ID card
  • Have at least two years of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson or at least three years of experience in the general real estate field or a combination of both

  • Meet the minimum points required for the experience type (e.g., buying and selling your own property, managing property owned by your employer)

  • Have successfully completed 75-hours salesperson course, 45-hour broker course, and a two-hour continuing education course on cultural competency OR 45-hour salesperson course (completed prior to 07/01/08), 30-hour remedial course, two-hour continuing education course on cultural competency, and 45-hour broker course.**NOTE: Effective December 21, 2022, you must satisfactorily complete 152 hours of approved qualifying education.

  • Pass a qualifying examination administered by the Department of State
  • Submit a completed application and the required fee to the Department of State

  • Prior to filing the application, all proposed business names must be submitted, in writing, to the Division of Licensing Services for approval. Upon approval of the name you wish to use, you must then file the appropriate document with either the respective County Clerk’s office or the NYS Department of State, Division of Corporations.

75-hour Broker Qualifying Course in New York

Long Island Board of REALTORS® Online Information & Policies as of February 1, 2023. Please read the following important course information prior to registering for this course.

The tuition fee for the 75-hour Online Broker Qualifying Course is $355.

Course Completion

Students who enroll must complete the course within one year from date of purchase. Any incomplete course work after one year of purchase date is void and student would be subject to full tuition to reactivate and begin again.

MPORTANT INFORMATION: You MUST complete and pass a proctored TEST before you take the New York State Test! After you successfully complete the online course, contact LIBOR Education Department to schedule an in-person test at one of LIBOR’s 4 REALTOR® Service Centers. The passing grade for the onsite exam is 70%. The Long Island Board of REALTORS® is required to report successful course completions to the Department of State, Division of Licensing in the state of NY prior to the student sitting for the New York state exam. Students will be required to complete an online course affidavit after passing their proctored final exam stating they have completed the online course.

Refunds

Prelicensing refunds are available up to fifteen (15) calendar days after the date of enrollment. No refunds or credits will be given thereafter.

Students who register and pay for the online course may be able to review specific classroom based topic(s), subject to Director of Education approval. However, students who wish to completely transfer to a classroom delivery licensing course must do so within three (3) months of the purchase date and will be subject to an additional fee and schedule availability.  If you would like to transfer into a classroom course, you may also be required to purchase additional materials.

School Exam

The exam for this course is a proctored exam which means students must take the exam in person. The exam has 100 questions and students are given three hours to complete.  Students have a total of two (2) separate attempts to pass the school’s final exam; students failing the end of course exam a second time will be required to pay for and complete the entire course again should they wish to continue. Students will be required to bring a government issued picture ID to the proctored exam site. All exams must be administered by a proctor within the state of New York. The Long Island Board of REALTORS® offers the proctored final exam at the following locations:

The LIBOR proctored exam is separate from the State of New York Real Estate Broker examhowever, this NYS required course will not be considered completed until you pass the LIBOR course exam.

You can schedule a test date for the state exam by logging on to the Department of States website here.  This is also the Department of State's real estate management system where you will apply for your license and eventually renew your license.
